Tetris Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

Whenever a significant awards ceremony draws close, one notices a clamor for introducing additional classifications to recognize underappreciated efforts and satisfy the hearts of followers with niche passions.

A fellow writer made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front just as with other blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand remains most pressing and important of all. This is the request: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; it remains highly personal, and it will always generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason movie academies avoid this approach. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise for the industry of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards offer these genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these six categories actually cover many game types, making space possible for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to put them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, all very different: building puzzles of one title, intense tile-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. What category would fit them within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers published annually lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked completely that year
  • A different innovative game was excluded during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked that year
  • Just some puzzle games barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're compact experiences, but the art in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most popular titles in the world maintaining this status for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with well-known building titles competing to become most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. You could fill five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these include experiences that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Logic title developers function at the demanding boundary of video game design, producing among essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Just like cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait decades.
